DIL TO BACCHA HAI JI

Story: The story revolves around three men Naren (Ajay Devgn), Abhay ( Emraan Hashmi), Milind ( Omi Vaidya) and their encounters with love. The rest of the story traces their highs and lows of love life and the extent to which men can go to achieve or avoid their love.

Review: Kudos to Madhur Bhandarkar who for the first time has explored the genre of romantic comedy. The movie takes a humorous look at love with real characters and relatable situations. It’s a perfect entertainer, but the content is not fresh and unique. The movie is a romantic comedy but similar storylines have already hit the screens earlier. The difference is that it has explored the psyche of men in a humorous way. You will be disappointed if you expect a glimpse of ‘Page 3’ and ‘Fashion’. Though it’s a slice of life with realistic parameters, but Madhur has produced better movies before.

Story Treatment: It’s a simple romantic comedy with real life characters like Naren who has a mid life crisis and thus falls in love with bubbly June Pinto( Shazahn Padamse), Milind who is idealistic in love and thus can’t think of losing ‘ virginity’ before marriage. Finally, Abhay is a complete flirt and is thus alien to love. The story quite lucidly traces their encounters and conflicts with love. The story completely justifies the title ‘ Dil To Baccha Hai ji’ as men never get tired to woo women and fall in love. It also gives you a reflection of the way men struggle to cope with modern women and contemporary relationships.

Star Cast: Ajay Devgn as Naren Ahuja has delivered a brilliant performance with mid life crisis and a confused middle aged man in love with a young intern. Emraan did what he does best as he plays the role of a Casanova Abhay perfectly and passionately. Omi as Milind will give you a reflection of his past onscreen role ‘ chatur’ as his ascent and the way he delivers his dialogue is same. Shraddha as gungun Sarkar manages to overshadow the other two with an ambitious and practical role. Shazahn is sweet and fresh. Shruti has less onscreen presence but manages to portray a girl who speaks her mind. Tisca Chopra as a socialite is a surprise package who delivers a convincing performance.

Director: Madhur has tried to move away from serious cinema and give audience a laughter dose for the first time. His earlier films have explored the dark world of fashion, jail and journalism. Though he tried to keep his signature style intact with realistic characters and real-life situations, but his mettle as a director is best proved through serious cinemas. He is known for making hard-hitting and realistic cinemas where has earned critical acclaim and box office success. ‘DTBHJ’ may give him box office success as it is an entertainer, but he may not earn critical acclaim.

Dialogues/ Cinematography/ Music- Dialogues are conversational and humorous. Some dialogues are full of punches like Emraan’s ideology to love ‘ Soo aur Sone Do’, The concept of losing ‘V’ ( Virginty) and hot yoga is funny and refreshing. Cinematography is nothing noteworthy, while the editing follows a linear story telling. Pritam’s music is soulful and fresh. Sonu Nigam has returned after a long time with his trade mark style with Tere Bin in ‘DTBHJ’. Mohit’s ‘ Abhi Kuch Dino’ is perfect and brings a foot tapping appeal to the song.

Ups and Downs: You can go for this movie as for the first time Madhur Bhandarkar explores the genre of romantic comedy. A fun filled entertainer packed with humor with good soulful romantic songs makes it an interesting watch.

This roller coaster ride of emotions is repetitive and the romantic take on love is old. The screenplay and storyline lacks punches. Nothing new, so you can easily give it a miss.
