Story- The film explores the journey of Susanna’s life, how she romances seven husbands for the quest of love .It also explores the pshyche of Sussana and the reasons as to why she kills all her husbands.

Story Treatment-
The film is a dark comedy with a thoughtful and thrilling storyline.. The story grips you till the end as the question that keeps coming back to the audience is who is Sussana’s 7th husband and also when will she eventually stop her killing spree. The climax of the movie is quite unexpected as Sussana kills herself in the end.  The story takes you through love, lust, betrayal, violence, blood and pandemonium.

Review-
Kudos to Vishal Bharadwaj for making 7 khoon maaf, a short story adaptation of Ruskin Bond’s ‘Sussana’s 7 husband’. The characterization and the play of emotions have been very well brought out.  The beauty of the movie lies in the interconnections and complexities in relations shown between Sussane and her husbands. The movie very well portrays the pshyche of Sussana. Vishal has revamped the genre of black comedy and it’s no more for niche audience who loves a gritty, violent, dark thriller with romance as background.

Star Cast- Priyanka as Sussana delivers another award-winning performance as she makes the transformation from a 20 year old to a 65 year old woman. The whole transformation looks very natural. She gives such a convincing performance that you actually sympathise with Susanna’s character rather than loathe her murders.  Irfan Khan deserves special mention as a ruthless husband who loves to dominate women in sex. His brutality actually brings out the weakness in Sussana’s character. Debutant Vivaan Shah (Arun) is fresh and definitely has potential in his genes. Russian actor Aleksandr Dyachenko (Nicolai Vronsky) has muged up some real good Hindi dialects like ‘Mere Paas Maa Hai’ and ‘Main tumse amar Prem Karta Hu’.

Director-
Vishal Bharadwaj knows his work well. This critically acclaimed director has proven his skills once again with this movie. Earlier too has tried his hands on filming of book adaptations which simply had rocked at box office and this time with ‘Susanna’s 7 husbands’ he has declared that out an out this movie ahs a Vishal touch. He has written the story for the movie format, composed the music and directed it too.  Vishal’s casting is perfect for individual roles opposite Priyanka, who has delivered a breath taking performance as Susanna.

Dialogues/Cinematography/Music- Director Vishal has used silence very effectively. The background music and banging of Church Bells helps in takeing the narration forward. Dialogues like ‘I want to drink his blood’, ‘Public mein Sanasani karne do’ are very effective and hard hitting. The camera work is experimental with usage of blur and moving images. The movie with gritty camera works gives you a feel of dark comedy. Extreme close-up angles helps in reflecting Sussana transformation from 20-65. The music  which is composed by Vishal Bharadwaj is fresh. It will make music buffs groove to it’s beats specially to the Indian version of Russian folk song ‘Darlinggg’. The placidity of the song ‘Bekaran’ in the valleys of Kashmir too deserves a special mention.

Ups and down: It’s a must watch movie for it’s strong and efficient cast, a special appearance by writer Ruskin Bond on silver screen, groovy songs , Priyanka’s unique and challenging performance and Greg Cannom’s natural prosthetic make-up.

The movie will do wonders for Vishal and Priyanka at the box office and will entertain you to the utmost.
